Piața a vândut o promisiune.

In short: the market just learned that memory is no longer a Korean monopoly. CXMT, China's DRAM maker, said it will ship server modules by year-end on a cell architecture Samsung was targeting for 2028. On Monday and Tuesday, Micron, Samsung and SK hynix lost between 4% and 9%. On the same day, China put its $3.9 trillion power grid for compute on the table, and AMD built an entire rack for the part of agents that doesn't run on a GPU.
LEAD — CXMT promises 4F² server DRAM by the end of 2026. Samsung and SK hynix lost 6% and 9% in a single morning
What:
- On Saturday (10.10), in Shanghai, CXMT president Cao Kanyu announced key progress on the 4F² cell structure and a new generation of DDR5 RDIMM modules (server memory) built on it, by the end of 2026.
- 4F² shrinks cell area by about 33% versus the 6F² standard, which in theory means 50% more cells on the same footprint.
- The market only reacted after the weekend: on Monday (12.10) Micron −3.88%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index −2.67%; on Tuesday (13.10), in Seoul, Samsung fell more than 6% intraday, SK hynix more than 9%.
- For context: SK hynix published its 4F² roadmap in 2025, and Samsung was targeting mass production on this structure for 2028.
Why it matters:
- Memory, not the compute chip, is AI's bottleneck. Large models live in memory. SK hynix's and Samsung's record profits over the past two years come from being almost the only ones able to deliver it at the top tier. If a third supplier gets to a new architecture first, the scarcity premium breaks.
- Export controls slowed the tools, not the ideas. CXMT has worked under US restrictions on equipment. If the announcement holds, it means a change of architecture (how the cell is laid out) partly routed around the lack of the most advanced machines. That should worry Washington more than it worries the Seoul exchange.
- An announcement is not yield. A former SK hynix researcher, quoted by JoongAng Daily: even if CXMT has the product by year-end, it remains to be seen whether it can produce enough to matter in the market. The market sold off on a promise. The real numbers will be 2027 shipments.
- Irony of the day: on Tuesday, at the OCP Global Summit, Samsung showed HBM5, its eighth generation of high-bandwidth memory. The shares fell anyway.
For us, specifically: cheaper server memory reaches, with a delay, the small machines that run local AI. A serious third source of DRAM is good news for anyone who wants to keep their models at home rather than in the cloud.

China builds its grid for compute: $3.9 trillion through 2049, so it stops throwing away green power
What (Bloomberg, 12.10):
- China plans $3.9 trillion in power grid through 2049: lines, giant batteries, storage. The aim: carry wind and solar power from the interior (Tibet, Gansu) to the coastal megacities where the data centers are gathering.
- State Grid alone has $574 billion over the next five years, 40% more than in 2021–2025.
- In the first half of 2026, about 9% of China's wind and solar output was wasted because the grid had nowhere to send it.
Why it matters:
- In the US, the question is who pays for data centers' power. Last week's report by Senators Warren and Blumenthal showed the difference landing on household bills. China answers differently: the state builds the grid, and compute gets power that would otherwise be lost.
- The long-term advantage is not the chip, it's the kilowatt-hour. Chips can be bought, stolen, or designed around restrictions (see the lead). A two-decade transmission grid cannot. Whoever has cheap, stable power in 2035 decides where models get trained.
- The 2049 figure is also a political statement: the centenary of the People's Republic. The plan is a grid for AI, but also a state calendar.

AMD Helion: an entire rack just for the part of agents that isn't the model. 32,768 cores, open specification
What (OCP Global Summit, San Jose, Lisa Su keynote, 12.10):
- Helion is a reference rack architecture in two versions. The first is CPU-only, for hyperscalers: up to 32,768 Zen 6 cores (6th-gen EPYC). The second is for enterprises: EPYC blades mixed with up to 16 Instinct MI350P GPUs, about 74 petaflops FP4.
- 21-inch ORv3 rack, liquid or air cooling, up to 102 Tbps of programmable networking, open-source software. AMD is contributing the specification to the Open Compute Project.
- Configurations from Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Supermicro, Hon Hai, QCT, Wiwynn, planned for November 2026.
Why it matters:
- Agents move the bottleneck from GPU to CPU. An agent doesn't just generate text: it runs code, opens browsers, calls tools, sits in sandboxes. All of that runs on ordinary processors. AMD explicitly separates agent execution from model inference and builds infrastructure for the former.
- It's the part Nvidia doesn't own. Nvidia's NVL racks are closed and GPU-centered. AMD bets on the layer around them and makes it an open standard, so anyone can build it.
- The link to last week: Nadella called for isolation and an emergency brake outside the model. That isolation runs on exactly these racks. Agent security is becoming a hardware order.

FRONTIER — the 54th axis: THE WRIST AS A MEASURING INSTRUMENT. 24 hours of raw movement predict diseases nobody has diagnosed yet
What (arXiv preprint 2608.29494, 30.08.2026; Wang, McGagh ... Doherty, Yuan — Oxford, with cohorts from the UK, China and the US):
- Sensori is a foundation model trained self-supervised on 24 hours of raw wrist movement, on three axes, which is the signal any band or watch with an accelerometer records.
- Data: 122,640 participants from four cohorts, 683,617 person-days of recordings.
- Added on top of the usual clinical covariates, it improved classification of existing diseases for 52 of 102 conditions (median AUROC gain 0.060, range 0.012 to 0.242) and prediction of future disease for 26 of 87 (median C-index gain 0.064, up to 0.172).
- Largest gains: neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Why it matters:
- It's not a new sensor, it's a new reading of an old one. The accelerometer is the cheapest, most widespread sensor in the world. Until now it gave "steps" and "sleep". Here, a whole day of raw movement becomes a medical signal.
- The brain shows in how you move. That neurological and psychiatric disease gain the most makes sense: slowing, tremor, the day-night rhythm are in movement years before diagnosis.
- The part to read coldly: it's a preprint, unreviewed. The gains are medians and modest across many diseases. And, before anything else, it's a health-surveillance tool: whoever holds the data from your wrist now also holds a prediction about your brain.
- Where it connects: it's the fourth "body as measuring instrument" axis after the retina (20.09), the voice (24.09) and the glucose curve (03.10). The difference: it asks for nothing new, just a device people already wear.
For us, specifically: a model that runs on accelerometer signal is exactly the kind of thing that can live locally, on a small device, without the data leaving the house. That is the shape we want for any measurement of the body.
