STRATEGIC INTERPRETATION
The investable center of gravity is not “buy any robot company.” It is:
- Own the platform layer where physical AI training, simulation, deployment, and edge inference happen. NVIDIA is strongest; Alphabet and Microsoft are strategic second-layer beneficiaries.
- Track deployment metrics aggressively: hours worked, parts handled, intervention rate, maintenance, customer expansion, payback period. Figure currently leads on disclosed humanoid deployment metrics.
- Separate defense autonomy from consumer robotics: defense has budget pull, urgent demand, and contract pathways; consumer humanoids still face reliability, privacy, liability, and service-cost constraints.
- Treat AI materials/autonomous labs as the deeper Model → Matter thesis: this may become as important as robots because it closes the loop from model prediction to physical synthesis.
- Do not overpay for demos: if no customer, no runtime, no failure-rate data, no deployment economics, it stays watchlist.
